OC Pacific Symphony
Class Act 2009-10 ~ Composer Tchaikovsky
ABOUT CLASS ACT AT MISSION PARISH SCHOOL...
Class Act is about to begin at Mission Parish School for the 12th
year. Class Act is an outstanding educational program that is a
partnership between Mission Parish School and Orange County's Pacific
Symphony (OCPS).
Class Act has existed since 1994 and has supported and enhanced
music education in elementary schools through out Orange County.
Currently there are 40 schools in the program up from the 10 when
Mission was invited to participate.
WHAT DOES CLASS ACT CONSIST OF?
Each year Orange County's Pacific Symphony selects a famous composer
for the Class Act program. The students learn about his life and
music through the Prelude Assembly, classroom lessons, Family Night,
Bravo Assembly and the youth concert at the Orange County Performing
Arts Center (OCPAC). Each year an "adopted" musician comes to Mission
to instruct each class in a lesson and our wonderful teachers reinforce
the program in various was through out the year. Each teacher receives
a book about the Composer, a CD of his music and other teaching
material. The lessons are designed to introduce our children to
the exciting world of music.
WHO PROVIDES CLASS ACT?
Currently the Class Act program is offered free to the school.
Mission's Parents' Club offers to pay the cost of the busses for the children
to attend the Youth Concert at the Orange County Performing Art
Center. To be eligible to keep Class Act at Mission Parish School each year we
are expected to provide a commitment by our principal, our teachers,
and our parent volunteers to ensure the program runs smoothly. In
addition we are expected to provide ten volunteers at OCPAC. Each year our volunteers find this to be a fun
event.
